A single-model championship series developed by Ferrari for clients who have a passion for racing, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli has thrilled drivers and fans alike since its inception in 1993. Bringing its professionalism and pedigree to the track, the Challenge runs on the most beautiful and renowned circuits in the world. The Prancing Horse in question is the 458 Challenge EVO, derived from the 458 Italia and the fifth model used in the Ferrari Challenge. It follows in the procession of powerhouse predecessors, the 348, 355, 360 and F430 Challenge cars, with each one becoming more technologically advanced.

1. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. began his remarks at the Roush Fenway Racing press conference by saying: 

"I am just here so I won't get fined." He, of course, was kidding.

3. Carl Edwards on his transition to Joe Gibbs Racing: 

"The part that makes me the most confident is having (crew chief) Darian (Grubb) in that group heading up the car, because it's not like a new car, new driver and a new crew chief. It's basically the (Hamlin) shop team and road crew and me just being plugged in as a driver, so there is less change."

4. Tony Stewart on a new year:

13. Crew Chief Ray Evernham's most embarrassing moment as Jeff Gordon's crew chief at the 1998 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, then known as 'The Winston': 

"We were leading and led the whole thing, had a fast car, and I was so concerned about weight I didn't want to put any gas in. They had one extra restart and we ran out of gas. I've never been so embarrassed in my whole life!"

"We are capable of definitely being a top-10 car each week, winning at least two races, making the Chase and going for the championship. Those are pretty realistic goals."

"I love the No. 24. I want to see the 24 go on to do great things. I did say if Chase was really adamant or (his dad) Bill and Chase and (his mom) Cindy all felt like that another number was more suited, that I was open to it. But I think our fans want to see the 24 continue on with the right person and be successful with the right guy, and he's the right guy."

Indy Lights Testing




Although it was just testing, it was kind of neat to see Indy Cars on our track the last three days as part of Indy Lights, a developmental automobile racing series sanctioned by IndyCar.  It is to the IRL what the XFINITY Series is to the Sprint Cup series.

As we're sure many of you remember, our track was first built to accommodate Indy Cars.  In fact, we hosted an IRL/CART race each year from 1996-2010.  The late Dan Wheldon (2005-07) and Sam Hornish Jr. (2001-02, 2004) hold the distinction of having won the most such races with three victories apiece.

Ralph Sanchez, the founder and visionary for Homestead-Miami Speedway, started the Grand Prix of Miami in 1983, and following Hurricane Andrew in August 1992, saw an opportunity to not only build a venue which could host many races, but also  revitalize the City of Homestead, which had been decimated by the Category 5 Hurricane.  That vision came to fruition in November 1995 when Homestead-Miami Speedway hosted its first race, the Jiffy Lube Miami 300 in the XFINITY Series.


 In 2003, Homestead-Miami Speedway underwent a major renovation as the most technologically advanced track reconfiguration project of its time took place.  A $12 million re-banking project transformed the track from a flat 6 degrees to a computer-designed 18-20 degree variable banking in all four turns.  This is one of the primary reasons why many of the drivers in NASCAR still consider our track the best 1.5-mile on the circuit.
